
Atlanta Botanical Garden
Consisting of 30 acres, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is one of the must-see Atlanta travel attractions located in Midtown Atlanta adjacent to Piedmont Park. The mission of this garden incorporated in 1976 is to maintain and develop collections of plant for the purposes of education, display, research, conservation and enjoyment.
The Botanical Garden showcases the most unusual and beautiful flora of the region. Visitors can stroll through the Japanese, perennial, vegetable, rose, herb, rock and conifer gardens or walk through the 15 acre hardwood forest. The garden's Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory has thousands of endangered desert and tropical plants from various parts of the world.
The Museum Shop in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens has a great selection of garden books, gardener's supplies, stationary and note cards, bulbs, seeds, jewelry, wedding gifts, wind chimes, bird feeders and outdoor garden statuary. The greenhouse showcases various live plants which include orchids, ferns, unusual succulents, beautiful houseplants and carnivorous plants.
The Sheffield Botanical Library has a collection of 60 periodicals and more than 3000 books on every aspect of horticulture and gardening. Researchers can use this library, but are not allowed to remove the periodicals or books from the library.
A 30 minute tour is available for the International Atlanta GA travel visitors to the Fuqua Conservatory in the languages of English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese. Tapes can be rented from the Museum Shop for $2. The garden of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is also available for hosting corporate meetings, weddings and private parties.
All the areas of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens are accessible to people with disabilities. The garden is open from April to October, Tuesday-Sunday between 9 am to 7 pm, from November to March, Tuesday-Sunday between 9 am to 6 pm. The museum shop and the Fuqua Conservatory opens at 10 am. The Garden remains closed on Mondays and on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
