Atlanta Cyclorama

The Atlanta Cyclorama is the famous cylindrical panoramic painting related to the American civil war battle of Atlanta. It is housed in the Museum at Grant Park, Georgia Atlanta. It is believed to be as one of the largest oil paintings in the world measuring 42 feet in height and 358 feet in length. Visitors take an advantage of viewing it by seating on a seat while the cylinder rotates making viewing very easy.

The Atlanta Cyclorama reflects fierce fighting as defenders of Atlanta counter attacked the army during 1864. Commissioned after the end of the war, the painting has been a very important part of political campaign at the time of John Logan. Certain parts of the painting also emphasizes on the heroism of Logan. The painting was created by American Panorama Company in consultation of artist Theodore Davis who was also the witness to one of these Civil wars.

The Atlanta Cyclorama was opened for display on 1887 at Detroit Michigan. The painting initially sold to a traveling circus which in turn when bankrupted sold its assets including the painting along with the animals. The painting was restored to the Cyclorama building in the 1980s.

A movie theatre inside the museum also displays a short film before Atlanta travel and tourism visitors can actually view the painting. The painting is also augmented by a three dimensional diorama narrating the important events of the history.

The Atlanta Cyclorama was also narrated by certain group of veterans or widows of the civil war and in 1960 Atlanta accepted the narration in the form of donation. The painting thus has a lot of sentiments and history going around itself. Sentiments of lots of people are attached with the painting. The recorded narration was musically stored by the museum as all parties had donated their time and money for the painting.
