The year was Nineteen Twenty Six, and in the middle of the Great Depression fourteen like minded men in Atlanta felt that the city needed something to remind itself of the roots of the great country that they lived in and hence they founded the Atlanta Historical Society.

It was created with the sole aim to protect and preserve all historical items that were associated with the history of the country and the city and also to provoke interest in the hearts and minds of the people in the city. Over the course of the century the Society has steadily grown and is now called the Atlanta Historical Center and is located in a large compound that comprises of a number of places that are a must see according to any travel guide Atlanta.
