Centennial Olympic Park

Centennial Olympic park is a 21 acre park that is located in Atlanta, down town and owned by Georgia's worlds congress center authority. The park was initially built for Olympic games as a part of the infra structure developments for summer Olympics of 1996.

It is conceived as a gathering center for the people and local visitors and has a lasting legacy for the city. Surrounded by many major land marks among which are CNN center, Georgia aquarium and the world of coca cola company.

The Centennial Olympic park key features fountain of rings which is a world famous interactive fountain featuring computer controlled lights and jets synchronized by music. The fountain forms a beautiful splash pad designed basically for children to frolic, as well as joggers to cool off during the heat of the day light. The area consists of nearly 251 jets shooting 12 to 35 feet in air creating beautiful water sculpture in the front yard of the museum nearby.

The fountain is an important land mark and playful space for the local visitors. The centennial Olympic park fountain is surrounded by flags of the host countries of the summer Olympics. There are several sculptures scattered around the park. During the Olympic season, the park contained sponsor exhibits that hosted medal presentations and was also a hotbed for pin trading. Closed shortly after the Olympics the Centennial Olympic park plays a role of host for attracting millions of visitors world wide.

The Centennial Olympic park was paid for in part by donations for the bricks which were bought by thousands of individuals and laid down as pavers through out the park. The park acts as catalysts for new developments in the Atlanta city.

Other significant surroundings include visitors bureau, apparel mart and the omni hotel. In 2008 the park sustained minor damage by the passing tornado that hit the city of Atlanta, blowing away two of its towers.

Ever since then the Centennial Olympic park has never suffered any damage due to any natural disaster. The park still stands in the center of the city as a gathering place for visitors on Atlanta travel and marks its place in the history of Atlanta city.
