Fernbank Science Center

One of the most interesting and educational places to travel in Atlanta is the Fernbank Science Center. It's has many interesting avenues through which you can learn and understand science at close quarters such as the Exhibit Hall, Forest, Planetarium, Observatory and Library. Each of these venues showcases a particular aspect of science and is a good source for learning for both teachers and students.

The centre was opened in 1967 and forms part of the DeKalb County School System. The aim of the centre is to spread knowledge and understanding of science and the role that nature plays in life. There are many innovative programs offered by the institute for students and there is a calendar of events here for every month. Each program focuses on a specific aspect of science and seeks to spread awareness and understanding on it.

The planetarium and observatory here are open on certain occasion to the general public. A unique thing that visitors coming here can see is authentic Apollo spacecraft. This spacecraft was designed for the Apollo 6 Saturn V test flight and it's an amazing sight to see because it was something designed for a real mission and a put-together replica.

Those interested in studying different plant varieties will find the Fernbank Science Center to be just the place they need to visit when travel to Atlanta. It has an extensive collection of plants and this include tropical plants, deserts plants and much more.

You can access the Fernbank Forest from the centre which is an extensive 64 acres of land area that is home to different types of vegetation such as shrubs, ferns, hardwood trees and so on. It also has a beautiful rose garden named the Robert L. Staton Rose Garden in which visitors can come and see more than over 1,500 rose varieties.
