
High Museum Of Art
The High museum of arts is one of the leading museum in the United States, located in Atlanta Georgia as the high division of Woodruff arts center. The museum has a collection of nearly 11,000 works of art to its collection. The museums collection also includes the 19th and 20th century European art, American art, African American art, photography collection, modern and contemporary art and African art.
The High museum of arts has collections of various artists like Giovanni, Martin Johnson Heade, Claude Monet, Chuck Close and others. The museum places special emphasis on works done by Southern artists and includes works like Paradise Gardens by Howard Finster. The museum also includes a curatorial center devoted to the field of self-taught art, a feature that is quiet distinct in American museums.
The High museum of arts also produces film series and festivals classic films annually for its visitors on Atlanta travel. The museum was founded in 1905 and in 1926 was named after High family who donated their collection for the welfare of the country. A separate building for the high museum just adjacent to the family home of high family was built by the state in 1955.
Members of the Atlanta family were lost in a airplane crash in 1962 in a museum sponsored trip killing all 106 member on board and making it the most memorable disaster in the history of aviation. In their memory the Atlanta memorial arts center along with High museum of arts was built for the high family. A sculpture called as "The Shade" was also donated to the high in memory of all the victims of the crash.
The building designed is one of the architectural structure in the American history. In 2002 three new building designed by Renzo Piano were added to the museum campus as a part of upgrade to the entire Arts center complex.
