Centennial Olympic Park covers a total area of 21 acre.
It is situated in the downtown area of Atlanta, Georgia. The park is operated and owned by Georgia World Congress Center Authority. This park was particularly for ACOG or Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.
Some of the major attractions of the park include interactive Fountain of Rings that comes with jets of water and computer-controlled lights synchronized with melodious numbers played from the light tower speakers which are kept all around the fountain. This fountain intends to attract attention of children, joggers as well as the concert goers particularly during the hot summer days.
The waterplay in Centennial Olympic Park has a total of 251 jets that shower 4 to 10 meter water in the air. This creates a very attractive water sculpture in the front yard of the park. The computer regulated water arrangement brings into mind the Dundas Square in Toronto. This concept has also been used in Bellagio Fountains of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
There are several flags posted surrounding the fountain that represents all the countries participating in the Olympics game. You can find different sculptures all around the park such as statue of Pierre de Coubertin, who is considered to be the father of contemporary Olympic movement. At the southern end of Centennial Olympic Park you can find a small sized amphitheatre.
So if you have planned to visit the wonderful city in United States, make sure you are planning to visit Centennial Olympic Park in the downtown area as well.
Believe it or not, Centennial Olympic Park's neighborhood was a multi-block old and shabby place that no one would notice 20 years ago. Initiator of the remarkable change is Billy Payne, CEO of Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. A brilliant idea came to him suddenly when he looked out of the office window. That is to turn the shabby neighborhood into a grand park for 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Since then, Centennial Olympic Park has attracted numerous visitors.
