
Jimmy Carter Presidential Library And Museum
The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum is situated in Atlanta on 35 landscaped acres. The complex has five interconnected pavilions which houses the former president's offices, the library and museum, and the research and foundation facilities. The landscaped gardens around it have a lake and more than 80 varieties of roses and 400 plants.
Various materials and papers relating to the Carter Family and the Carter administration are present in the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum. Special exhibits like the Carter's Nobel Peace Prize and a US Bill of Rights show are present in the library.
Some parts of the Carter Museum and Library are owned and operated privately while some other parts are administered and owned by the federal government. The museum and library are part of the federal government's Presidential Library System and the National Archives and Record Administration run it. The privately owned areas include the Carter's offices and the Carter Center offices which is a non-profit human rights agency.
The construction of the library began on 2nd October 1984, after the land acquired by the Georgia state for a highway project was cancelled by Carter. On 1st October 1985, on the 62nd birthday of Carter, this library was opened to the public.
The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum building takes up spaces measuring 69750 square feet. Among this the space of exhibits are 15269 square feet and 19818 square feet of storage space and archive. The library consists of 27 million document pages, 500000 photos and 40000 objects which include videos, films and audiotapes.
The museum remains open from Monday to Saturday between 9 am to 4:45 pm and on Sunday between 12 pm to 4:45 pm. The library is open from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Restrooms are present at the entrance's right along with telephones and water fountains. All these facilities are to make sure visitors on Atlanta travel will have a pleasant experience.
