The Fernbank Science Center operated by the DeKalb County School System is an amazing learning center. Started in December, 1967 this educational facility has been a boon to students. On certain days the observatory and the planetarium are open to the public as well. The whole purpose of the Fernbank Science Center is to give a thorough understanding of science to students and finding science in the everyday things around us.

The Scienec Center has a library too that is open for long hours including Saturdays making it convenient for most to spend time there. The Fernbank Science Center gets out science related newsletters from time to time making it extremely interesting for science enthusiasts. There are fantastic Planetarium shows that are enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

There are various other facilities offered at the Fernbank Science Center like the Aerospace Lab and the Meteorology Lab. It is also used to impart knowledge to elementary and middle school students and also conducts teacher in-service programs. They also have a compost site which helps people in learning about and the easy approach helps them in setting it up themselves or they can even buy it at the center. All these facilities put together make the Fernbank Science Center an intergral part of society and extremely beneficial to students.
