Forsyth Park
The 30 acre Forsyth Park with a history of 170 years offers a wide range of outdoor activities during your Savannah travel. Originally the Park was set up in 10 acres of land that was donated by John Forsyth, the Georgia Governor. Once again, in 1853 when all the planned wards in Savannah had been occupied the Forsyth family donated another 20 acres adding to the Forsyth Park’s existing 10 acres.
The Park has all the embellishments that you would be expecting and includes play area for children, the walking paths, a large fountain and a fragrant garden for the Blind. For the benefit of the public the garden also hosts various concerts at the park, from time to time. For details of these events, you can refer to a Savannah travel guide or use the web links provided on this page.

Among other fascinating attractions in the Park is the fountain which was installed in 1858. The fountain will also remind you of the Place de la Concorde of Paris or Peru’s Cuzco for their similarities.
The Parisian model of town planning and development of large city parks was found worthy of emulation by several American Cities in the mid 1800s. The smaller cities followed suit and Savannah also found this a convenient medium to assert its cosmopolitan image.
The Confederate Memorial Statue is another work of Art which you cannot miss when you are at the Forsyth Park. The statue itself was donated the Courthouse of Monroe County commemorating the volunteers who laid down their lives in their fight for the confederacy. To protect the longevity and culture of the statue it is protected through a fence surrounding the structure.
