Savannah Theatre

Among the oldest and continuously operating theaters in America is the Savannah Theater of 1818 origin. However, fire destroyed the original theater in 1906. 1948 saw another theater being built on the same site and positioned itself as an Art Moderne Movie house.

Local support available to the theater during those times was inadequate to sustain the theater financially. All through the 1970s, the theater struggled and in 1981 it was finally sold to the Savannah Theater company. For deeper history of the theater you can refer to web pages on Savannah travel information.

The Savannah Theater company could only carry on till the end of the 20th century before scouting for a new buyer. Presently yet another theater company has taken over this historically important theater and the on-going venue presently is christened as ‘Lost in the50’s’.
