Reaching the summit of Stone Mountain is something really exciting to do. Visitors coming here have two options to reach the top of the mountain. They can take up the steep walkup trail else they can opt for the skylift. You can see a panoramic view of the surrounding areas. Primarily it lets you take a look at the enormous Atlanta skyline, something that you can get a good view of while you stand up there.
On very clear days, you can see the majestic Appalachian Mountains, which is real must to view. Rainwater that collects on top of the summit from rainfall forms small pool which forms the home of clam shrimps.
The most stunning aspect of this mountain is the Confederate Memorial Carving, which is the world's largest bas relief sculpture. It depicts three Civil War confederate leaders - President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, riding on their favorite horses. The carving covers an enormous 3 acres and it's a really stunning sight for everyone who comes here.
One of the most enjoyable events happening here in the summer is the Lasershow Spectacular. This show entertains guests with enormous fireworks and laser light displays. Those interested in going trailing will find Stone Mountain just the perfect place as it offer many interesting trails such as Walk Up Trail, Cherokee Trail, Nature Garden Trail, Songbird Habitat Trails.
Those coming here for Atlanta travels should not go without visiting the Stone Mountain Memorial Association or SMMA. This museum brings about an awareness of the geological formations behind Stone Mountain. You also find a lot about the history of the place here.
