
Woodruff Arts Center
Woodruff arts center in Southeast is one of the largest arts center in United States. It is very unique in itself and combines four visual along with performing arts divisions as one of the biggest not-for-profit organizations. Inaugurated in 1968, it is a home to Alliance Theatre, Symphony Orchestra, Young Audiences, High Museum of Art and Street Playhouse.
In 1962, Atlanta suffered a great loss when airplane carrying the Atlanta arts and civic community leaders crashed at the runway killing all aboard. The memorial was laid down in memory of those who lost their lives in the crash leading to the creation of Atlanta Arts Alliance.
The Woodruff arts center also includes the Atlanta College of Art along with Symphony Orchestra and Museum of art. Combining the three entities, the corporation unprecedented in the country. The Alliance Theatre and the Young Audience were added later by 2005. It ensures Prek-12 programs reaching more than one million of the children each year as the largest base of arts center.
The Woodruff arts center extended its campus in 1983 making Meier the youngest Pritzker Prize winner architect. On November 2005, the Woodruff arts center added new features to its fleet with new exhibit buildings, curatorial and administrative buildings, residence hall, full service restaurant and a sculpture studio. The center managed to turn itself to village of art.
The Woodruff arts center with its campus is covered in 12.25 acres or 49,600 square meters of land that is well planned and hopes to expand its campus to 18.25 acres more. Currently the center includes 906,000 square feet of exhibition area and is estimated to increase in near future.
The Grammy award winner Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is included in the fleet of the art center along with south's premiere theatre and is also one of the largest provider for education in the field of arts in Georgia which attracts numerous visitors on Atlanta Georgia travel.
