Zoo Atlanta

The Zoo Atlanta is located in Grant Park and houses above 200 animal species including giant pandas, African lions, gorillas, Komodo dragons and meerkats. The aim of this zoo is to make conservation efforts of protecting the species and educate the public about wildlife. The zoo began in the year 1889.

The zoo with its nearly 1000 amazing animals is a popular destination of the region. Along with the giant pandas and the famous collection of great apes, it also has various rides and attractions for the visitors on travel to Atlanta GA. Interactive Wildlife shows and Keeper talks run here throughout the year.

Visitors and children of all ages can take a ride on some endangered species at the Zoo Atlanta. Guests can take a whimsical spin on the 38 wooden animal figures in the Nabisco Endangered Species Carousal. This ride also has various hand painted murals which depict endangered animals in their natural habitat. Situated in the Children's Zoo, the carousal is housed below a colorful pavilion.

The Georgia Natural Gas Blue Flame Express is one of the zoo's favorite family rides. The train is a handcrafted replica of an 1863 locomotive and can carry 140 children or 100 adults. This train has covered passenger coaches, lights, comfortable and wide seats. The train takes the riders on an n educational and fun tour of parts of the outer perimeter of the zoo.

The Horticulture department of Zoo Atlanta provides plant materials for the decor of special events. It educates the guests, staffs and volunteers about landscape design and native plants. A fun indoor space for play called 'Walk Like Me' is present for the kids in the zoo.

The Zoo Atlanta is open throughout the year except on Christmas and Thanksgiving Day. From Monday to Friday it is open between 9:30 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday between 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. For the safety of the zoo animals, pets are not allowed inside the zoo grounds.
